Los Angeles, CA and New York, NY – August 19, 2002 – It’s not everyday you find a home large enough for Clifford The Big Red Dog™. But for the next six weeks, Clifford™ can be found at KB Home communities nationwide during “Clifford and KB Home’s Dog Gone Great Giveaway!” The joint marketing campaign is being launched today by KB Home, one of the nation’s largest homebuilders, and Scholastic Entertainment, the world’s premier producer of children’s entertainment. The event marks the first time Scholastic Entertainment has partnered with the homebuilding industry for a marketing campaign. The promotion, which will run from August 19–September 30, 2002, includes Clifford™ book and video giveaways at all KB Home communities, as well as special appearances by the crimson canine himself. The KB Home promotion will be supported by print advertising, direct mail, signage and Web site.
Adored by children all over the world, Clifford is the star of Scholastic’s best-selling books with 97 million copies in print. His animated television series on PBS KIDS™ is the #1 rated show for children ages two to five and two to 11* and is seen by approximately 98 percent of U.S. households. “It’s a perfect fit,” says Wendy Marlett, senior vice president of Marketing for KB Home, about this first-ever homebuilder/oversized dog promotion. “For many of our homeowners, Clifford already feels like a part of the family. As KB Home focuses on building quality homes for first-time and first-move-up homebuyers, more than 70 percent of our homebuyers have children. For these families, Clifford will have a special appeal.” Marlett added, “We are also pleased to be teaming up with Scholastic, a company with a rich history that shares KB Home’s commitment to families.”
Leslye Schaefer, senior vice president, Marketing and Consumer Products, Scholastic Entertainment said, “Our promotion with KB Home truly illustrates the marketing power and overwhelming appeal of Clifford. This unique initiative also shows that there are limitless opportunities out there for companies to utilize our Big Red friend to maximize their promotional and marketing endeavors. We are excited to be teaming with KB Home in their efforts to help families find their dream homes.”
