Mooresville abruptly fire police chief

The town of Mooresville fired suspended police chief John Crone last week, almost a month after he was placed on paid leave and after his resignation was rejected by town officials.

Crone had been suspended after the Mooresville board of commissioners asked that both an internal and external investigation be held into the former chief's management of the department's Cops for Kids program.

In addition, Crone and the town are now the defendants in a lawsuit filed in mid-July by a former Mooresville police officer, who alleged that she was retaliated against by the chief because she had filed a sexual harassment complaint against another officer about six years earlier.
